GERHARD JANDL

Security Policy Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Austria

Gerhard Jandl is the Security Policy Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Austria. From 2005 to 2008, he served as the Austrian Ambassador to Serbia (Serbia-Montenegro, resp.), and to Bosnia-Herzegovina (2000-2005), there being also the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps. In the years 1995 – 2000, he was Head of the Western Balkans Division of the Austrian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, as well as Chairman of the EU/CFSP Working Group on Former Yugoslavia (COWEB) during the Austrian EU Presidency.
From 1993 to 1995, he was in charge of the political relations with PLO Headquarters in Tunis, as Deputy Chief of Mission of the Austrian Embassy in Tunis. From 1989 until 1993, he served at the Austrian UN mission in New York, in 1991-92 being an Austrian delegate to the Security Council, in charge of Iraq/Kuwait, Libya, Western Sahara, and Former Yugoslavia. Earlier, he had worked in the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Departments for International Conferences, for Bilateral Economic Relations, and the Legal Department, resp., and at the Austrian Embassy in Cairo. Gerhard Jandl is a Doctor of Law (Vienna University), and holds a Bachelor of Economics degree (Graz University).
