Mr. Barnett has been the British Ambassador to Poland since 2011. He studied law at the University of Birmingham. In 1980 he joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

His first post was Warsaw in 1982. He also worked in diplomatic missions in Vienna, New York and Bucharest.
