Member of the European Parliament, Committee on Foreign Affairs, Subcommittee on Security and Defence - Estonia

Tunne Kelam has been a MEP for the European People’s Party (EPP) group since 2004. He belongs to the bureau of the EPP group and is EPP Group vice-coordinator of Security and Defence subcommittee. He is a member of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence where he was the rapporteur on cyber-security and defence. He is also member of the US delegation. He is a former vice-chair of the Estonian Parliament (1992-2004). From 1997 to 2003 he was chair of the European affairs committee. 

Chair, Isamaaliit Party (2002-2005); member of the executive, Isamaa ja Res Publica Party (since 2006). He was founder and member of the executive of the Estonian National Independence Party (1989-1993), the first registered non-communist political party in the USSR, Chair (1993-1995). In 1992 he was elected as chairman of the Congress of Estonia, the alternative parliament to the Supreme Soviet. He holds a degree in history from Tartu University, Estonia.
